Skip resource validation if neither the manifest or compiled resources define any resource dependencies. Currently, checkVisibilityOfResourceReferences always searches through all transitive dependencies to construct a list of private resource references. This is done to compare and validate the visibility of the resources referenced in the Android manifest and the compiled resources. However, this validation can be preemptively skipped if neither the manifest or compiled resources include any references to resources. This is often the case for android_local_test builds. As such, this new change opts to gather references from the compiled resources and the Android manifest first, thus allowing the function to potentially skip the expensive search through transitive dependencies if there are no initial references to check against. This ruleset depends on Protobuf, which has a minimum C++ language level of 17 (as of Protobuf v30, ~2025 Q3). Depending on your system‘s compiler version, you may have to set -std=c++17 in your C++ toolchain arguments. This repository’s .bazelrc file provides a minimal set of Bazel configuration flags to build an Android app.
This repository contains the Starlark implementation of Android rules in Bazel.
The rules are being incrementally converted from their native implementations in the Bazel source tree.
